Collage – Third Week

As another possible way into building a collage, today we explored working with grids…..

Starting with a nicely gesso’d board, everyone chose their preferred grid and applied a light wash of a couple of harmonious colours to overcome the ‘blank canvas syndrome’….

Texture was then gradually built up with gesso and/or modelling paste…..

imagery applied….and colours and motifs balanced out…

Everyone worked on at least two pieces at once….

with some great results – some were finished – others are still to be finalised….

I fiddled around for ages with my two demo pieces after everyone had gone, and think I can almost call them ‘finished’ now!

Well done guys – this stuff can take a little while to ‘click‘. The more you experiment with placement, colour and texture, the more fun you will have, and the more options you will have available for your future collaging.
