Creating a collage painting is a process of piecing together different memories and experiences, as I sift through my large stash of Greek papers and ephemera. It’s all about pulling together little fragments, layering and positioning the pieces to create something that, for me, represents life in Greece.
Sketches are interwoven with layers of text, torn from precious vintage books. Local recipes, seasonal agricultural tips, religious programmes and calendar pages are also possible collage fodder. There’s much auditioning of shapes and sizes before each paper finds its rightful place.
A second method involves the production of piles of brightly coloured, highly textured, hand-decorated papers for use in the creation of bright, bold floral designs.
Taking the process a step further, my graphic designer husband, Mick, scans all original paintings and prepares them for professional printing. This enables us to offer ready-to-hang canvases or ready-to-frame prints in a wide range of sizes to suit your walls. When enlarged, all the tiny details of the original are beautifully amplified, producing a bold image with enhanced lines and textures. Any hesitations, over-drawing, or ‘imperfections’ in the artwork remain, preserving the feeling, energy and spontaneity of the original.

Quintessentially Greek… whitewashed walls, blue pots, red geraniums and an old electricity meter! This was drawn on-location in Vasilitsi in southern Messinia, but it could equally have been a scene found in the Greek islands.
