Vintage postcards sent from Greece, with fabulous old photos, serve as both my inspiration and my ‘canvas’ for this series. Old drachma postage stamps and poignant words, written long ago, form the basis from which to create a new story.
Altered Postcards
The art is created directly on the back side of the postcards… line drawings are layered with scraps of Greek text and ephemera. The original handwritten notes and postage stamps on the cards become an integral part of these small, mixed-media paintings, which tell the stories of early visitors to Greece and the Islands. The ‘front’ of each postcard is left open, so the original photograph can be seen.

Taking the process a step further, my graphic designer husband, Mick, scans all original paintings and prepares them for professional printing. This enables us to offer ready-to-hang canvases or ready-to-frame prints in a wide range of sizes to suit your walls. When enlarged, all the tiny details of the original are beautifully amplified, producing a bold image with enhanced lines and textures. Any hesitations, over-drawing, or ‘imperfections’ in the artwork remain, preserving the feeling, energy and spontaneity of the original.
