Teaching on Wanderlust 2021

In October, my lesson in Wanderlust 2021 went live. This was the first time I’d been part of the teacher line up on Wanderlust – teaching alongside 27 other artists, in a year-long mixed media art journalling course. We actually recorded my lesson in the summer in the studio, although I had planned it several months earlier. I really enjoyed the interaction with the course participants when my session went live in October. It was completely fascinating to see the different variations and creative interpretations of my lesson.

The theme of my session was ‘Haven’ and for me, of course, Greece is my haven, so the project did have a little bit of a Greek flavour! My lesson was rather good value I thought – offering two projects-for-the-price-of-one! In part 1, the course participants were introduced to the art of seascape painting, using just a credit card and some acrylic paint. It’s trickier than it looks, creating a beautiful sky and seascape but is a technique which rapidly improves with practice. Then in part 2, students created a collage from pre-painted papers – making a window scene, complete with window shutters and a vase of flowers, overlooking the seascape.

Students were building their collages with a selection of hand-painted papers which I had shown them how to create earlier in a bonus session. Here’s one of my (several) demonstration collages in-process….

It was fabulous watching the students versions appear in the private course Facebook group over the course of a week or so…

The feedback I received from the students was really great, so hopefully I’ll be asked back to teach on Wanderlust again sometime.
