Week 2: Drawing & Painting (Sketchbook Style)

Here’s the Friday group’s fabulous homework at the end of their first week. I can already see progress and improvement since their first week’s drawing….

This week we switched from organic forms to man-made, and drew & painted our own keys. Here’s some of my collection from previous classes – how I love drawing keys!

And here are some of the students keys, drawn in class this week:

Even the humble door key takes on a real charm here….

it’s quite a challenge to draw & paint with all that glinty-shinyness going on…

and quite a contrast to the organic shapes of the fruit we tackled in the first week…

Some people turned up with fabulous old rusty keys to use as models….

and others simply drew their regular door key….

Some keys had stories attached…

All keys – without exception – were thoroughly observed and rendered beautifully, regardless of pedigree, as you can see by the  drawings above.

The sun came out and we stretched our legs in the garden at coffee time….

Then got right back to work on some more drawing…we even fitted in a little blind-contour drawing.

A very respectable key collection at the end of their second morning. Congratulations everyone – great work today.
