Collage: Theme Five

This week’s theme is “Monasteries and Churches”. My sketching-buddy, Jackie Sherwood and I have now abandoned any pretense of sticking to a weekly format and are simply working on one theme until we feel it’s time to move on!

This first collage, with an image of the church of Ag Nicholaos in Koroni, is created by assembling painted copies of my original sketches with scraps of Greek text torn from the 2011 yearbook.

The second collage-painting depicts one of the lovely small chapels inside the St. John the Baptist Monastery in Koroni. Copies of my original sketches of the chapel and metal gate are combined with fragments of text related to the Monastery and a piece about the month of August.

The final piece, which is larger, combines sketches of the exterior wall of the Monastery, with shreds of Greek text torn from a copy of a map of the Monastery grounds.
