Kalithea Walk – 9th April

This was the second time I had led this walk, which is one of my new favourites as it is fairly easy walking and meanders through three villages, allowing plenty of kafeneon opportunities!

We had a really hot day for this 17.5k walk which starts out from Evangelismos and takes in the villages of Perivolakia (small gardens), Homatada (something to do with mud or earth), and Kalithea (good view)

This walk feels really spacious somehow as the terrain is unusually un-hilly for this area as the whole walk takes place quite high up on a huge agricultural plane. Some of the dirt tracks here are pretty major, and one in particular is like the M25 of dirt roads but without much traffic, except for the odd pick-up or donkey.

Some of the tracks today, however, were a bit overgrown with horta and a profusion of wild flowers.

We passed field after field of neatly pruned vines, bursting with bright green shoots and new growth, plus rather a lot of tiny pink flowers.

This bee-keeping equipment was by the main road in the village of Evangelismos on our return.
