Kick-Start Your Art

Kick-Start Your Art

A creative,  inspiring and relaxing week of art and discovery in the Southern Peloponnese,

with local artist Gill Tomlinson

Join me for a week of drawing, painting, printing, collaging, and creative exploration in this fabulous, unspoilt part of Greece.

Do you feel in need of a little motivation to kick-start your art practice, or some time out to gather your creative energies? You may simply fancy sketching in a warm climate in a new place, or to play with some new techniques in the studio.

This week offers a relaxing, creative space for fresh inspiration, in beautiful, natural surroundings in a very traditional corner of Greece.

Create your own unique collection of drawings, paintings and mixed media work, inspired by this unspoilt area.

We will visit my favourite sketching haunts and draw and paint in the open air – in an olive grove – by the sea – in secluded monastery grounds, or in the heart of a rural village.

You’ll also have the opportunity to try out some new ideas and techniques with me in my home-studio – I’m passionate about monoprint, all sorts of collage and love mixing up my media!

I have lots of experience in teaching art to adults and enjoy passing on my knowledge to help others develop their skills.

I speak reasonable Greek and know the whole area pretty well as I’m always seeking out new sketching places.

Join me, both in and out of the studio, on a rejuvenating art week and discover Koroni – an artist’s gem in the Southern Peloponnese. Small groups ensure plenty of personal attention.

 ‘ON LOCATION’ SKETCHING SESSIONS

In and around Koroni in the beautiful and unspoilt Southern Peloponnese

An invitation to accompany me to some of my favourite sketching spots in the area to draw & paint on location.

We visit a wide variety of different venues, which have been specifically selected for the purpose. In high summer, the choice of location is usually driven by the quest for adequate shade; the availability of cool drinks and a bit of a breeze! After slaving over a hot paintbrush all morning, there’s nothing nicer than a cooling swim and the possibility of a leisurely lunch by the beach. At other times, shelter from a chilly wind; the availability of hot coffees and a cosy, smoke-free environment govern the choice of location.

On Location runs from 9.30am – 1.30pm. A typical session may kick off with some group members showing any drawings/paintings they have done at home during the week. If there’s no work to view, we may have a brief discussion on technique or materials or the best places to work in that particular location.

I then tend to lead a couple of simple, warm-up exercises, such as a blind-contour drawing, or drawing with the non-dominant hand – just to quieten down the brain chatter, focus the observation and generally get us into the drawing mode.

After this, everyone goes off to find their own sketching spot and I rotate around the group throughout the morning, so that everyone receives individual attention.

Shortly before the end of the morning, the group re-forms and we admire everyone’s work. This is a great opportunity to get ideas from others work and to show your own art in a positive and supportive environment.

Some venues are at village cafes/tavernas and others are much more remote, so please contact me for details of facilities and what you need to bring along.

‘On Location’ is best suited to those with some previous drawing or painting experience, although beginners are welcomed. Small groups and personal tuition.
