Mixed media painting, created with layers of acrylic paint, wax and ink on watercolour paper. The first layers of paint were embossed with a variety of tools to create a slightly raised texture. The initial image was also drawn into the wet paint at this point. When dry, several layers of paint and wax were applied and variously scratched into and sanded back to give a weathered look. The line drawing was done at various points in this process, using ink applied with a stick or the sharpened end of a paintbrush. Finally, some decorative details were applied using various ‘stamping’ tools found around the home.

Quintessentially Greek… whitewashed walls, blue pots, red geraniums and an old electricity meter! This was drawn on-location in Vasilitsi in southern Messinia, but it could equally have been a scene found in the Greek islands.
