Workshop – A Layered Greek Painting

Mixed-media collage workshop

A Layered Greek Painting

Spend a creative morning in the studio, cutting and sticking Greek papers and painting with acrylics. This technique involves creating a collage background as a base for your acrylic painting, so that parts of the collage peep through here and there in the finished painting. Its about creating layers with the written word and paint, which gives an added element of interest and intreague to your painting.

We will start by choosing and applying torn strips of old Greek book pages to watercolour paper or board. I’ll share my tips for composing an interesting background, then show you how to make it a suitable base for drawing and painting on.

Using my ‘Forgotten Corner‘ painting as a starting-point, you will create your own, mixed-media painting. You can either choose to emulate this image of an old pot, or use your own choice of imagery – The Art Studio is full of ideas for inspiration!

I will demonstrate each stage of the creative process and gently guide you with advice on composition and colour as we go along. I’ll share my favourite tips on collage-making and give you information on all the art materials we use during the morning.

This technique is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous drawing & painting experience.

At the end of the morning you will leave with your own Greek-themed acrylic-collage painting, ready to frame and hang on your wall.
