Weekly Collage Project

A few weeks ago my art buddy, Jackie Sherwood and I decided to set ourselves a creative challenge. Jackie is a mixed media artist who paints mostly in acrylics and I come from a textile design background but we have both been interested in and made tentative forrays into using collage in our work in the past. Although working on the same subject, it’s fascinating to see how differently our finished pieces turn out each week. To view Jackie’s collages, go to her blog: http://jackiesherwood.weebly.com/1/category/collage/1.html

We thought a bit of mutual support might help us push through our creative blocks on working with collage, so having drawn up a long list of subjects we both fancied working on, we committed ourselves to producing one new collage each week, gradually working our way through the list of subjects.

Below are a couple of collages I did some time ago, which have some interesting paint effects. The first incorporates a photo of a Finikounda window, with distressed paint layers and random calender dates.

The second uses graphics from a local bakery, Greek text, calender dates and a drawing of a traditional clay pot scratched into the paint layers.
