Weekly Collage: Week One

The theme for this week, picked at random from our list, is “Signs and Lettering“, which turned out to be not quite as easy as it sounded!

Here are my attempts for this first week, starting with “Kreopoleio“,  which utilises some of my favourite Greek wrapping paper which is supplied wrapped around purchases from the local butchers.

Next up is “Epipla” which features sign-writing from a traditional carpentry shop in Assine, plus some of my taverna chair drawings and a date torn from an old Greek calender.

Below are more signs from the same shop, layered with collaged text and several layers of distressed paint.

Lastly – my favourite in this batch – and a completely different colourway – “psakse“, which means “search“. I love the colours and the open airyness of the design with random bits of Greek text peeping through.

My art-buddy, Jackie Sherwood’s weekly collage can be viewed from this link.
