Thursday Group

Following hot on the heels of the Wednesday group, the Thursday group turned up clutching a goodly collection of very well-exectuted homework this week. I loved the variety of styles and media and appreciate everyone’s willingness to stretch themselves. Chosen subject matter ranged from dice, to pots and pelicans and even an incredibly impressive pencil portrait.

I am thrilled that one student in particular has fallen in love with blind contour drawing (the ‘wonky‘, semi-abstract drawings you can see at the bottom of the photographs), as this is one of my favourite ways of ‘getting into the right brain state’. I love the feel of these blind drawings.

Today’s lesson was all about focusing on ‘negative space‘ – a very useful aid to drawing – and involved doing a focused drawing of the negative space surrounding a pair of scissors placed within a pencil frame. Sadly, I got so into the lesson, that I once again forgot to take photos of the negative space drawings!

We were obliged to take our coffee break inside the studio again today as it was raining cats and dogs…and hailstones, on and off for most of the morning.

Very well done everyone for all your hard work this week.
