The Watercolour Sketchbook

The Watercolour Sketchbook

12th February to 4th March

  • Four Wednesdays: 10.00am – 1.30pm
  • €60 includes all art materials & coffee/biscuits

A new four-week workshop in which we will build on the drawing skills learnt in the ‘Starting to Draw’ course, whilst introducing the use of watercolour paint! Using watercolours in your sketchbook opens up an exciting new world of possibilities…

In this workshop you will start to combine colourful watercolour with your line drawings whilst recording scenes from your everyday life and environment. You will learn several different ways of using watercolours in your sketchbook, to bring life and colour to your line drawings.

Over the four weeks, we will discuss composition, colour choice, colour mixing, how to apply the paint and will look at various ways of laying out a page for maximum impact.

I will show you how to choose your subject matter carefully and demonstrate how drawing & painting small snippets of a scene can often be more captivating than drawing everything that’s in front of you!

You will be able to try out a range of watercolour paints, and even use a bit of collage, whilst creating evocative sketchbook pages. We will discuss grades of paint and paper qualities and brushes and where to find them.

By the end of this course you should be well placed to continue your ‘sketchbook habit’ – drawing and painting everyday objects & scenes from life, photos and even venture out sketching on location around the area.

The cost of this 4 week, 14 hour course is €60 which covers art materials and coffee/tea/biscuits. Payment is due in full at the start of the first morning. We will start each morning promptly at 10am.
