The Value of Drawing

The Thursday Continuation Sketching group were looking at values today….

After quickly producing a value scale, they set about trying their hand at hatching and cross-hatching, using a variety of different pens and pencils….

Next came an exercise in shading – really looking at the lights, darks and mid-tones of an egg lit by a side light….

They were encouraged to try out different media and different ways of shading, whilst concentrating on the lights and darks of the egg. If you think this is easy – try it at home!

Here’s just some of their homework for the week, which includes several fabulous studies of draped cloth, thumbnail sketches and still life.

Some great work here guys – congratulations and thank’s for all your hard work.
