Starting to Draw

Starting to Draw

15th January to 5th February

  • Four Wednesdays: 10am – 1.30pm
  • €60 includes all art materials & coffee/biscuits

A new four week workshop in which we go back to basics and cover the fundamentals of observational drawing. Intended for complete beginners, this workshop is also useful for those wanting to brush up on their basic drawing skills.

We will start off with simple pencil drawing, whilst learning about line, relationships, perspective, angles and shading. You will learn how to start a drawing using a basic unit of measurement, so your proportions work out as the drawing progresses.

You will learn how to judge angles and how to create depth and form in your drawing. We will look at perspective and negative space and you will be able to try out a range of drawing materials including graphite, charcoal, waterproof pen, pen & ink and markers. We will discuss types of drawing paper & various sketchbooks and where to get them.

We will draw a range of subjects including plants, leaves, vegetables, fruit, household objects, kitchen utensils, keys, etc, as well as from photographs, whilst practicing our skills. There may also be a little bit of homework!

The cost of this 4 week, 14 hour course is €60 which covers art materials and coffee/tea/biscuits. Payment is due in full at the start of the first morning. We will start each morning promptly at 10am.

At the end of this course there will be a separate, follow-on workshop, “The Watercolour Sketchbook,” starting on 12th February.
