The Weathered wall is an image painted from the artist’s memory & imagination. It evokes a hot summer’s day in the back streets of a colourful Greek village. Perhaps it’s in the afternoon, when no one is around and shutters are closed for the mesimeri. The blue table waits for a chair to accompany it later, for the evening post-siesta coffee. The wall glimmers in the sunshine – layers of paint gently peel here and there to reveal the colour of previous years…
This mixed media painting was created with layers of acrylic paint, wax and ink on watercolour paper. The table, shutters and pot plants were all created from scraps of collage, raided from my stash of hand-decorated papers. The collage elements were variously cut and torn, then applied with gel medium, before being stamped with paint. Black waterproof ink was drawn on in the final stages to unite the composition and create definition. The final painting was treated with a clear spray UV varnish.
