This scene could be taking place in any one of the Greek Islands or any village in Greece. In fact it was when sketching in the fishing village of Finikounda one day, I spotted a small family of cats on and around a staircase leading to the first floor of an old house with a pretty courtyard garden. The cats were obviously patiently waiting for something, or someone…or both! I captured the scene with a quick sketch and a photo on the spot, and later, back at the studio, I painted ‘Suppertime’ – so named as it seemed pretty obvious the cats had been waiting patiently for their next meal. The original painting which was created with ink, acrylics and wax from a church candle, has now been sold and lives in America.
