I wanted to convey the impression of a sizzling hot summer’s day in the narrow, shady streets of the village with this painting which started life as a black & white sketch done just around the corner from our house…
Later on, in the painting process, layers of blown-up Greek text and handwriting from a vintage postcard were applied to the steps and the walls. I love the way the multiple layers of fluid acrylics used add to the depth and richness of the colouring.
Stepping up is an original mixed-media acrylic painting, created with a combination of techniques including drawing, painting, acrylic transfer, stencilling and stamping.
It is on a slimline cotton canvas with a depth of 2cm. Only artist grade materials were used in the creation of this painting.
