Midsummer Messimeri is a large, acrylic mixed media painting, depicting everyday life in a typical Greek village during the hot, lazy days of summer. It is set in mid-afternoon, during the siesta period, when seemingly the whole village sleeps.
The painting began with a black and white line drawing, done in the back streets of Harakopio in the south west Peloponnese. The sketchbook drawing then became a much larger canvas painting with the use of artists quality acrylic paint and acrylic transfer techniques. Finally, decorative details were added to emphasise the air of tranquility and heat.
