An original mixed media collage painting inspired by a traditional seaside village house in the heat of a hot midsummer day. The shutters are closed to keep the house cool inside, whilst the shimmering heat bounces of the whitewashed exterior walls.
The background, hand-decorated papers were created from a combination of techniques including mono print, stencilling and stamping. They were collaged onto 300 gsm watercolour paper in a mosaic like pattern.
The original drawing of the house was done whilst on location in Greece and later transferred onto the collage using one of my favourite transfer print techniques.
The whole painting was then worked into with artist’s quality acrylics to give the house and plant more definition. Some lovely textures were created in the whitewashed wall of the house during this process.
The textured background creates an almost dappled look to this painting and contrasts nicely with the thin, black line drawing of the house and potted bougainvillea.
The finished painting has been sealed with a few layers of clear protective varnish.
It measures 23 x 23cm (9 x 9″) and is unframed and unmounted for you to mount and frame as you prefer.
