This cheerful little piece of original art, was based on the image of a tiny Greek fishing boat I saw bobbing about in the harbour, on a rather breezy but sunny January morning.
It’s entitled ‘Cut-out Boat’ as it was created with a combination of monoprinting and cut-paper collage.
The monoprint background is a lovely watery blue-green, with lively marks and textures barely visible as a result of the print process. I worked over areas of the monoprint with translucent blue-green fluid acrylic paint to enrich the colours and create more depth.
Whilst monoprinting the background, I worked on a collection of hand-decorated papers in a variety of colours and some of these have been used to create the boat and it’s colourful cargo.
A little hand-stamping and judiciously applied painted detail completed the process – along with the addition of the seagull and the jaunty red mooring buoy.
The collage was created on watercolour paper with lashings of archival matte medium and given a final coat of clear UV varnish.
The painting is for sale unframed and unmounted for you to frame as you wish – I think it would look great with a generously wide white mount, in a simple frame.
Cut Out Boat measures 21 x 21cm (8.25 x 8.25″)
