The handsome door in question is in Koroni, next to Ninette’s Dance School, where I have held my last two summer exhibitions. I believe the door leads to a rather nice, large rental apartment on the first floor. I’ve seen some photos online and spoken to some of the people who stayed there but have never actually been up there… so it remains a bit of a mystery to me… I was initially attracted to the way the well established pots clustered around the step, and to the large traditional style door….
The artwork started life as a line drawing in my sketchbook, swiftly executed on the street one day. The subsequent painting was created later, back at the studio, on a beautiful vintage postcard, with a little Greek collage added. I love the way the handwriting and printed details of the old postcard peek through the layers of paint here and there, as you can see in the work-in-progress photo above. Working with fluid acrylic paint, I then added a bit more detail to the pots and blended the blues and greens in the door. The painting was finished off by adding some texture to the white background by stamping on some teal acrylic with a special secret tool! The original painting has sold and is now living in England. Fine Art canvas reproductions and paper prints are available from the website. [Note: the Print of the Month special offer is only on the paper version.]
