On Location Sketching in Finikounda

The Omega Taverna, on Finikounda harbour was a popular venue for this week’s ‘on loction‘ sketch group.

Fortunately, there was tons of space for such a big turn-out, and the lovely owner – herself an artist – was super-accommodating and even let us use a private space on the first floor – as well as the shady taverna itself!

There was a plentiful choice of compelling subject matter in and around the taverna…

Subjects included the colourful fishing boats of Finikounda…

evocative taverna furniture…

the harbour…

well…what more could you ask for a morning’s sketching in a taverna by the water?

some colourful plants and pots perhaps…

love the cruet set on the table…

and the wonky plant pot…

This little boat was an irresistible subject….

as were the pots and chairs…

This boat was drawn on brown craft paper with a pen and white pencil for hi-lights…

Ditto for this lovely old pot…

Finikounda bay, drawn from the first floor balcony…

as was this…

and this…

it’s that irresistible little boat again….

As well as all the ‘proper’ paintings above, the group churned out a few ‘wrong-handed drawings‘ to get started…

and even spent a few moments getting mucky with charcoal…

A fabulously prolific output guys, especially for such a HOT day! Excellent work everyone.

  1. Really enjoying the sessions…. And have to say your photography does my efforts proud……. Loved getting messed up with the charcoal and the swim on the way home was the icing on the cake. Thanks Gill
