On Location Sketching – Aghios Andreas

Thursday morning started out pleasantly enough….

but as the morning progressed, some rather huge, black rain clouds assembled overhead…

We began with a little line drawing – seeking out contours, angles and relationships by re-drawing line over line in black pen….

This is a great way to break free from the quest for page-perfection that can creep in when using the ‘sketchbook method’ tought in the six week class….

The Akroyiali is a great sketching venue, so after our warm ups and a bit of a demo from me, people didn’t have too far to go to find appealing subject matter…

Those of you who have sketched here with me before will recognise this lovely old boat!

and possibly even this little one in the harbour…

Using a viewfinder can be really useful when faced with such a big choice of subject matter…

Alternatively, you can just draw them all…

As well as boats, other drawing subjects presented themselves…

such as these beautiful pots in and around the taverna…

and these fabulously crunchy and colourful eucalyptus leaves….

A wide variety of drawings & paintings were produced, in different media….

Although the gathering clouds were a little unsettling….

we were lucky, and didn’t get rained on….

After a final meet-up in the taverna, we called it a day at lunchtime. Well done everyone – great work.
