On Location in Koroni Castle

A selection of photos from the second ‘on location‘ drawing & painting session, which took place in the grounds of Koroni castle yesterday.

The four hours sped by as we we undertook various vignettes inside the grounds of the 11th Century Church of St. Sophia.

We focused in on the detail of the buildings – capturing several images on one page.

There was so much of interest to draw that we spent the whole morning in that one spot.

A little careful positioning was required, as the weather shifted from distinctly cool to, well – pretty hot!

As well as the Byzantine Church, our venue offered good views of the decorative roof tops of the Church of Aghai Triada and the small chapel of Issodia, nestling in the Monastery wall.

It’s a beautifully peaceful place to draw.

We started the morning with a little left-handed-drawing to warm up…

Before moving on to the ‘proper’ sketchbook drawings…

It was a very pleasant morning and some lovely work was produced – with everyone getting down to business – stopping only briefly mid morning for a brief coffee break and stretch! – very well done everyone. You should all be well pleased with your efforts today.

  1. I know you are a ‘blue’ sort of chaplet but after viewing these pix I am a decidedly ‘green’ sort of chap!

    1. Ah – but you are having such a lovely time in Ireland and sketching away over there. We look forward to seeing you when you get back – you’ll soon be joining us here – seeking out shady corners out of the June sun and squinting in the glare! x

Lovely to see these Gill! So enjoyed coming to the art group – and what beautiful results here :-) Wonder if you’ll be doing any more when I’m back in Greece – hopefully some time around 9th/10th June.
Thanks for the inspiration – it really got me ‘looking’ again and love the ‘drawing a day’ idea you shared too.
    Bye for now, Rebecca x

    1. Hi Rebecca – Many thank’s for your positive comments – I’m glad you got something out of the ‘on location’ session. This week we’re assembling inside the Koroni Monastery grounds for some quiet, peaceful sketching – its my favourite place to draw really. Yes – I plan to continue the on location sessions throughout June (heat permitting) and will be drawing up the June locations list soon. Glad you’re managing another trip out here in June – hopefully see you then. Best wishes – Gill x
