Mosaic Background Collage

Week one of the new Mosaic Background Collage Workshop got underway today…

The process has several steps, and starts with selecting your ‘mosaic’ papers for the background…

Then you need to consider their size, shape and placement on the page…

Then…you get messy with the glue…

After ‘knocking back’ the background with a little judiciously applied paint…

Images are prepared for the next layer – you can re-purpose your own sketches, if you’re a drawer, or copy images from other sources if you’re not currently confident in drawing…

The transparent images are then applied to the background….

as in this demo collage of mine, above…It takes a bit of getting your head around….and you almost need to do the whole process to ‘get it’….

The morning whizzed by in a flurry of demos; glue; paint; tracing and lots of decision-making. Well done everyone – we will continue next week and put the finishing touches to these little collages.
