Militsa – Panaiika – Kato Ampelokipi walk

Walking in (relatively) new territory this week…..starting from Militsa, we headed north to the abandoned village of Panaiika…

Some fabulous fixer-uppers….with views to Koroni!…

After a welcome break at the restored church here (locked), we headed on to Ampelokipi, where we took a break in the shade of their church (Ag. Konstantinos & Eleni) for lunch….

The best track of the day was the fabulous (and sandy!) ridge track with panoramic views and a wide range of rock formations on all sides.

This gradually lead us down to the river bed, along some shady, leafy lanes, before we started our ascent again up to Militsa….

By this time it was pretty HOT and sunny – although we had experienced a variety of weather along the way….including some actual rain – prompting the speedy donning of waterproof ponchos and opening of umbrellas!

Having decided to omit upper Ampelokipi from the walk, this abbreviated version still clocked 15.4 kilometres, which we walked in just over 4 hours, with a total stopping time of 1.34 hours – at an average speed of 3.8 kph!

But we did still take time to stop and admire the flowers along the way!
