First Walk of the New Year

Lucky us – the skies were blue and the sun was shining for the first walk of 2013…

As my last walk was on 24th November – with December walks cancelled due to the lurgy – I’d decided on a leisurely 12k stroll today…

Starting out from Harakopio, we took the back beach road down towards Gargarou, then turned right towards Koroni, passing through Aghia Triada…there were, of course, the inevitable hills…

We took a leisurely drinks break at the little church-with-a-view above Lachanou….

From here, we nipped over to Assini, then down to the Limenaki Taverna on Memi beach for our picnic lunch stop by the sea…

A birthday surprise had been planned for John, so we lingered a while here over cake and wine, enjoying the glinting sea and warm sun….

The taverna was of course closed, but provided the perfect lunch-stop nontheless – the staff table came in handy for the birthday goodies…

On the return lap through Mouseli, the temperature dropped rather suddenly and the wind whipped up….but it was not long till we were back at the Art cafe in Harakopio enjoying a welcome post-walk drink (many thank’s John)…

A decidedly pleasant walking day for the start of the New Year!

  1. It was a beautiful day with good company. The birthday break with delicious non-fattening cream cakes and a snifter of wine was an added bonus on this walk …. and John and I sorted out the world while walking up the hills…. which sort of made them not as hilly!!!!!!!!! Great first walk of the year and here’s to many more. Thanks Gill
