Aghia Sotira Walk

Finally….after several wet-weather cancellations, we managed the fabulous Aghia Sotira-Peran-Aghai Paraskevi-Kastro Leone-Kastania-Polistari walk last Saturday, 3rd March.

This relatively short, but hilly walk, is jam-packed with places of interest…..first port of call was the deserted village of Peran – above.

After a bit of a steep climb….we rested a while and enjoyed the spectacular views from the church of Aghia Pareskevi.

Before heading uphill again to our lunch stop inside the ruins of Kastro Leone…..lunch with a view…..

After some welcome downhill walking, we arrived in Kastania, where Kiria Sofia Zerva had kindly arranged to open the small folk museum for us…

She enthusiastically answered questions about several of the exhibits on display, as well as giving lots of information about the history of the village and how the museum came to be (it is housed in the old school house)

Tearing ourselves away from Kastania, we made our way back to Aghia Sotira, passing through our second abandoned village of the day – Polistari, en route. Today’s walk, although only 10.4 kilometres was a full and interesting day….plus we had fabulous weather of course!
