29th April – Koroni

Hundreds of people flocked to Koroni today for the procession of the icon from the Church of Panagia Eleistria.

The procession was led by school children and a local band. Then came the icon, borne aloft, above the crowd and surrounded by priests, alter boys, local dignitaries and naval officers.

The processional rout took us towards the castle, then down the stepped street to the plateia behind the harbour, along the shopping street to the main church of Koroni, then up the main ‘balcony’ road, and back into the grounds of Panagia Elistria again.

We processed in brilliant sunshine, until the very end of the proceedings, when the rain came down suddenly and strongly, but only for a few minutes.
